Hi, I’m Rick Bayless.
My business, A Healthier Home, offers friendly, accessible environmental home health and safety investigations in the southern Appalachians. We’ve won multiple annual awards for our “Super Service” from Angie’s List, and we bring our commitment to quality to every home we visit.
Did you know that your home is actually a living ecosystem? After 35 years of experience, I’ve learned to look beyond the surface, to assess the symptoms of problems, and identify root issues. My goal is to offer individuals and families the workable solutions needed for prevention, intervention, and control of situations that may occur in their homes.
To become a qualified environmental home health investigator, one begins with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related field; mine is from Rutgers University. After that, national certification is the way to go. You’ll find I’m board certified as an indoor environmental consultant by the Indoor Air Quality Association as administered by the American Council of Accredited Certifications, and as a Healthy Homes Specialist through the National Environmental Health Association. Also, I’m a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency certified lead risk assessor, and an HVAC specialist.
To remain knowledgeable about developments in my field, I serve on the Energy Committee of the Environmental and Conservation Organization, the Sustainability Team of Transition Hendersonville, and am a member of the Western North Carolina Green Building Association.
When I’m not investigating my clients’ home problems, you’ll find me educating the community about the connection between our environment and our health. I’m a long-time home health, mold, and energy instructor at Blue Ridge Community College.
My wife, Barbara, and I have been married for 37 years and are committed to our family of four. A former Eagle Scout, for decades I remained an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America program. Supporting the healthy development of children and families focuses the attention to detail I give every home.
If you need good, unbiased information about the healthiness of your home, I’m happy to help.

What are people saying about Rick?
Rick is an educator. We went from almost no knowledge about how our home works to feeling fairly competent, now… Rick actually helped us to save money because he helped us to identify mold that was not removed beforehand by another company, so we didn’t have to pay the total bill from that company… This is some of the most useful money you will ever spend. His knowledge and unbiased insight is to be commended. Rick is very impartial and is not beholden to a product or service from another. Rick was able to visit within a short timeframe and was on time. Very highly recommended!” – Chris C., Mauldin, SC
